LINLI is a design-led exploration that reimagines the Tongzilou-a marginalized form of Chinese urban housing. Often dismissed as relics of the past, these corridor-style buildings continue to support dense, dynamic, and diverse communities within rapidly modernizing cities. Through participatory design and community engagement, LINLI seeks to revitalize these spaces as inclusive social and cultural commons, uncovering their latent potential for adaptive reuse. The project prompts reflection on how urban traditions can be reinterpreted in contemporary contexts, inviting dialogue on the balance between preservation and innovation, individuality and collective life, within the evolving fabric of Chinese cities.
